09/11/23 (Agence Europe) – Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Internal Market, will be in Beijing on Friday 10 November to meet the Chinese Ministers for Industry and Trade and the Chinese Vice-Premier. Unsurprisingly, the purpose of the visit was to reaffirm the EU's new economic strategy of ‘de-risking, without decoupling’, and to defend its industrial and economic interests. Mr Breton is also expected to “advocate for fair treatment for EU companies operating in China”, particularly in terms of access to Chinese public procurement. These meetings will also provide an opportunity to prepare for the next summit between the EU and China, which should take place “later this year”, according to the Commission. (IS)
