EU Council extends for a year restrictive measures linked to unauthorised drilling activities in Eastern Mediterranean

09/11/2023 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 9 November, the Council of the European Union renewed for a further year, until 30 November 2024, the restrictive measures it imposed as a result of Turkey’s unauthorised drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean in 2019. At present, two people are sanctioned under this scheme which was adopted in 2019 (see EUROPE 12367/8): Mehmet Ferruh Akalin and Ali Coscun Namoglu, two officials of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), who carried out unauthorised drilling activities (see EUROPE 12435/4). The restrictive measures consist of an asset freeze and an EU travel ban. EU citizens and companies are also prohibited from making funds or economic resources available to the persons and entities on the list. (CG)
