06/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – Unsurprisingly, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament’s political groups decided unanimously on Wednesday 6 September to go ahead with the nomination procedure for the European Commissioner-designate for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, Sport and Youth, Iliana Ivanova. The MEPs will therefore be called upon to take a final vote at the plenary session, to be held in Strasbourg from 11 to 14 September. This vote should confirm Ms Ivanova in her new role. On Tuesday, the group chairs and coordinators of the relevant parliamentary committees met to assess Ms Ivanova’s performance at her hearing on the same day (see EUROPE 13243/1, 13243/2). This assessment was then forwarded to the Conference of Presidents. (EV)
