25/08/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Spanish Council of Ministers approved, on Tuesday 22 August, a Royal Decree validating the status of the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The country becomes the first Member State to set up such a structure. It will be attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. The interinstitutional negotiations (‘trilogues’) on the Artificial Intelligence Act (‘AI Act’) (see EUROPE 13222/3) are continuing and the text should result in an obligation for Member States to designate a national AI control authority to oversee developments related to this technology. The European Parliament adopted its position on 14 June (see EUROPE 13201/1). Two trilogues have taken place so far, on 14 June and 18 July. See the document (in Spanish): https://aeur.eu/f/8cs (TM)
