25/08/2023 (Agence Europe) – On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the end of the war between Russia and Georgia, on 7 August the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, on behalf of the EU, called on all participants to engage constructively in discussions to achieve full implementation of the 12 August 2008 agreement. It condemned the continued Russian military presence in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, in violation of international law and the commitments made under the agreement. “The EU reaffirms its willingness to continue to participate in efforts to stabilise and resolve the conflicts in Georgia and reiterates its firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders”, added Mr Borrell.
