25/08/2023 (Agence Europe) – In a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Wednesday 23 August, the European Union congratulated Srettha Thavisin on his election as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The EEAS said that Europe looked forward to working closely with the Royal Thai Government to strengthen EU-Thailand relations “in support of the rules-based international order, regional stability, sustainable development, democracy and human rights, prosperity and free and fair trade”. Lastly, the press release points out that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Thailand, which was signed in December 2022, provides an opportunity to deepen cooperation in all these areas of common interest.
