European Commission authorises Netherlands to increase budget for measure to modernise rail transport to €67 million

On Friday 4 August, the European Commission announced that it had approved a modification to a State aid scheme aimed at supporting the modernisation and interoperability of the rail network and supporting the transport of goods by rail. The measure was originally approved in November 2019 (see EUROPE B12363A20).

This measure will enable freight locomotives in the Netherlands to be fitted with the latest version of the European Rail Traffic Management System, or ERTMS. The scheme aims to...
