25/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 July, the Member States unanimously approved the ‘Chips Act’ regulation to stimulate semiconductor production in the European Union. This final stage will enable the text to enter into force, three days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. As a reminder, the ‘Chips Act’ makes it easier to set up industrial semiconductor production projects in the EU, notably through simplified procedures and financing (see EUROPE 12886/1). The EU hopes to achieve a 20% market share in the sector by 2030. On the same day, the Member States also approved the regulation establishing joint undertakings as part of the Horizon Europe programme, which will enable the creation of a ‘Chips Joint Undertaking’ (see other news).
