25/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 July, the EU Council approved the agreement reached with the European Parliament on the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive (see EUROPE 13139/11), which aims, among other things, to reduce Europe’s overall energy consumption by 11.7% by 2030. Member States will also have to ensure new annual savings of 1.49% of overall energy consumption on average between 2024 and 2030, gradually reaching 1.9% by 31 December 2030. In an accompanying document, four Member States, in separate statements, questioned whether the directive’s objectives had been achieved at national level (see EUROPE 13227/24). The European Parliament approved the agreement on 11 July (see EUROPE 13220/7).
