27/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 June, the European Parliament awarded the LUX Audience Award 2023 to director Lukas Dhont for his film Close, which follows the story of two inseparable young friends facing a pivotal moment in their lives. The other filmmakers in the running were Carla Simón (Alcarràs), Emin Alper (Burning days), Ruben Östlund (Triangle of Sadness) and João Pedro Rodrigues (Will-o’-the-Wisp). While the latter are chosen by a jury of European film professionals, the winner is selected jointly by the public and MEPs. Created in 2007 by the European Parliament, the award aims to promote European films that reflect the continent’s cultural diversity and tackle subjects of common interest.
