On Tuesday 27 June, associations of SMEs and mid-caps from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain published a manifesto calling on the EU to adopt “a realistic industrial policy”.
The direction that EU industrial policy is currently taking is worrying these players, who say that they are suffering more and more constraints. These lead to high production costs and increased dependence on certain third countries, say the representatives grouped under the name ‘E7’.
The group formulates ten key actions to better integrate the needs of small businesses. These include: - greater involvement of SMEs in policy development; - more realistic and workable European rules; - a technological opening to achieve the EU’s climate objectives.
The authors of the manifesto believe that the EU should be content, in general terms, to set objectives and leave companies a certain amount of freedom to implement them.
