European Commission authorises €346 million Polish aid scheme to meet farmers’ liquidity needs

On Monday 5 June, the European Commission announced that it had authorised a new Polish aid scheme of around €346 million designed to facilitate access to liquidity for agricultural producers affected by the consequences of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

This support will consist of limited amounts of aid in the form of subsidised interest rates on loans. The aid will not exceed €250,000 per beneficiary and will be granted no later than 31 December 2023. The European Commission found that the aid complied with European State aid rules and, more specifically, the March 2023 Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (see EUROPE 13138/1).

Poland has recently implemented a range of measures to support its agricultural sector. On 15 May, the Commission authorised a Polish scheme of around €122.6 million to help Polish farmers cope with rising fuel prices (see EUROPE 13182/21); on 16 May, it authorised a Polish measure of around €1.3 billion to help farmers pay their insurance premiums (see EUROPE 13183/5); and on 23 May, it authorised an aid scheme of around €1 billion to preserve the liquidity of Polish agricultural producers faced with rising input prices (see EUROPE 13186/20)(Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
