05/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 June, the European External Action Service (EEAS), on behalf of the EU, welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s unanimous decision to extend the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) until December 2023. “We reaffirm our support for the African Union’s Roadmap for the Resolution of the Conflict in Sudan and we are pleased that the extension of the UNITAMS mandate will help ensure inclusive and coordinated regional and international action, under African leadership”, the EEAS press release emphasised. The EU took this opportunity to reiterate its call for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to cease hostilities immediately, and it issued a reminder of their obligation to protect civilians and guarantee humanitarian access.
