09/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the European Union appointed Emer Finnegan as the new Jurisconsult of the EU Council and the European Council on Thursday 9 March. Director since October 2018 in the EU Council’s Legal Service responsible for legal issues related to competitiveness, environment, transport, telecommunications and energy, this Irishwoman also worked on the drafting of the Lisbon Treaty and the agreement on an orderly withdrawal of the UK from the EU. She has also worked as a référendaire at the EU General Court. As of 1 April, Mrs Finnegan will replace Thérèse Blanchet, who has been Secretary General of the EU Council since November 2022 (see EUROPE 13042/33).
