14/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published, on Tuesday 14 February, operational guidelines on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), national case studies on the implementation of PrEP programmes and a standardised monitoring tool for PrEP in order to define priorities for action to implement it in Europe. PrEP is an antiretroviral treatment for HIV-negative people to prevent acquisition of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The ECDC calls on countries to take these tools into account when developing and implementing national policies and to pay particular attention to improving access to PrEP for all key populations. The ECDC worked largely on data it collected between February and March 2022. For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/5bk (EV)
