The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU announced on Tuesday 14 February the establishment of an EU Working Group to examine the use of frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
It will be chaired by Ambassador Anders Ahnlid, Director-General of the Swedish National Board of Trade (Kommerskollegium).
This Working Group will carry out a legal, financial, economic and political analysis of the possibilities of using the frozen Russian assets.
Part of the preparatory work will be to obtain a clearer picture of the location of the assets held by the Russian State and their total value.
The work will be carried out in close cooperation with the Freeze and Seize Task Force led by the European Commission.
According to the Swedish Presidency, the decision on the group’s mandate is to be taken at the meeting of the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU on Wednesday. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
