14/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament validated by 555 votes to 13 with 81 abstentions, on Tuesday 14 February, the agreement reached between the European Parliament and the EU Council on the capacity of the Commission to take unilateral action against the UK if it breaches its commitments under the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement and the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (see EUROPE 13075/27, 13040/14). The new rules give the European Commission the power to restrict trade and investment and suspend preferential treatment if the UK government breaches either of these agreements.
