05/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Christian Archambeau, welcomed, on Friday 2 December, the agreement reached in the Council of the EU on the Regulation on geographical indications for industrial and craft products (see EUROPE 13076/30). “We stand ready to provide our expertise, our resources and our dedicated organisation to carry out the tasks entrusted to us, both during the second-stage Union-level examination of the application and the registration of the title, as well as in case of direct submissions where there has been a derogation from the national phase”, he confirmed. He said he hoped that an interinstitutional agreement would be reached as soon as possible under the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council. The European Parliament is expected to adopt its position in February 2023. (PH)
