05/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The EU safeguard measure to protect the steel and aluminium sectors expires in June 2024. In view of this deadline, the European Commission published, on Friday 2 December, an assessment of this measure. Steel producers and consumers were invited to fill in questionnaires to provide input for the survey. Other interested parties, including in third countries, may submit their views in writing to the Commission until January 2023. The Commission will then undertake to make a proposal by 30 June 2023 on the extension of the measure, on which Member States will be asked to vote. The safeguard measure had already been extended in June 2021 (see EUROPE 12750/25). (LM)
