05/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission approved, on Monday 5 December, all five of Poland’s Territorial Just Transition Plans. A total of €3.85 billion from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) will benefit Silesia, Lower Silesia, Małopolska, Wielkopolska and Łódzkie. More specifically, Silesia and Małopolska will receive €2.4 billion to promote local economic diversification, restore environmental damage caused, improve energy efficiency in public buildings and fund training. In Wielkopolska, €415 million will be dedicated to the phasing out of the mining industry and lignite power plants. In Lower Silesia, €581.5 million from the JTF will help diversify the local economy away from coal. Finally, Łódzkie, home to the Bełchatów lignite power plant, the largest emitter of CO2 in the EU, will receive €369.5 million. (HS)
