02/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – In adopting its Opinion on the geographical indications proposal at the plenary session on Thursday 1 December, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) welcomed the plan to delegate part of the investigation of GI files to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). According to the CoR, the EUIPO has powerful tools that can be used by GI producers to simplify registration procedures, improve GI control and combat fraud (see EUROPE 13060/15). For the CoR, environmental, economic and socio-cultural sustainability criteria should be specified in the proposal, but applied on a voluntary basis. The Opinion is drafted by Karine Gloanec-Maurin (PES). For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/4fz (LC)
