08/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 September, French Minister Delegate for Transport Clément Beaune told a group of journalists that he is cautious about car emission standards ahead of the Euro 7 regulation proposal in October (see EUROPE 13003/6). “Our message, which we share with Bruno Le Maire (the French Minister for the Economy - editor’s note), to the European Commission is to be consistent. An agreement was reached by the EU Council at the FPEU regarding the end of internal combustion engines in 2035. We cannot ask the industry to adapt to new demanding standards when 2035 is tomorrow!”, he said in answer to EUROPE’s questions. The recent vote in the European Parliament to ban the sale of new combustion engine vehicles by 2035 has been strongly criticised by the automotive industry (see EUROPE 12976/8). (PH)
