08/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 8 September, the European External Action Service spokesperson, Peter Stano, denounced the detention of the acting Chargé d’Affaires of the EU delegation in Belarus for more than 2 hours. “This is a very unfortunate incident, an unacceptable and deplorable act of violating the diplomatic status”, he told the media, adding that the detention was a “serious breach” of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The Chargé d’Affaires was arrested as he left a court where he had attended the public reading of the verdict of an in camera trial of ten political prisoners. The Belarusian Chargé d’Affaires in Brussels has been summoned to explain the incident, the EEAS spokesperson said, adding that such incidents should not be repeated. (CG)
