06/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 6 July, the European Parliament approved a compromise text negotiated with the EU Council providing for measures to mitigate the consequences of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine for fishing activities (see EUROPE 12975/3). The report by Nuno Melo (EPP, Portugal) was adopted with 620 votes in favour, 10 against and 9 abstentions. The text will support fishermen who have had to stop their activities, as well as producer organisations and operators in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, whose activities have been disrupted. The text includes all producers whose economic viability has been undermined by the war, as well as the processing sector. The aid will be provided retroactively from 24 February 2022 at a co-financing rate of 75%. (LC)
