06/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – Negotiators from the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament will meet on 11 July to start inter-institutional negotiations (‘trilogues’) on two dossiers of the ‘Fit for 55 package - the revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the creation of an ‘EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism’ (CBAM) - several sources told EUROPE. The negotiations on the revision of the ETS will be particularly difficult on the issue of creating a second carbon market covering greenhouse gas emissions from heating of buildings and road transport (ETS2 or BRT). The positions of the two institutions are indeed very different on this point, which is a major element of the case (see EUROPE 12982/6, 12977/10). (DG)
