06/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Member State Ambassadors to the EU, meeting in the Political and Security Committee on Wednesday 6 July, approved additional support for the military component of the African Union Mission in Somalia/African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (AMISOM/ATMIS) of €120 million in 2022. This support, from the European Peace Facility (EPF), will mainly contribute to the allowances of the African soldiers deployed to enable the mission to fulfil its mandate effectively, the EU Council said in a statement. In April 2021, the EU Council adopted an assistance measure in the form of a general programme of support to the African Union in 2022-2024 under the EPF and support of €65 million covering the period 1 July - 31 December 2021 was agreed in July 2021.
