EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PLENARY / Taxation

MEPs condemn national vetoes on minimum corporate tax agreement

06/07/2022 (Agence Europe)MEPs condemned countries for abusing their vetoes on tax issues, adopting a resolution on Wednesday 6 July by 450 votes to 132 with 55 abstentions. They call for a relaunch of the debate to gradually introduce majority voting. The text states that Hungary’s demands to lift its veto on the global agreement to adopt a minimum tax for multinationals were already largely reflected in the OECD agreement. The European Parliament therefore calls on Hungary to end this blockage immediately. The resolution also calls on the European Commission and the Member States not to engage in political bargaining and to refrain from approving Hungary’s national recovery plan unless all the criteria are met (see EUROPE 12980/23). EUROPE will continue to follow this story. (AD)
