In the early evening of Monday 20 June, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries were expected to approve a proposal introducing several measures to mitigate the consequences of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine on EU fishing activities.
In adopting the report by Nuno Melo (EPP, Portugal) on this dossier, this Committee was to make some amendments to the original proposal, which provides: financial compensation for the temporary cessation of fishing activities when Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine compromises the safety of fishing operations (without the six-month limit); financial compensation to recognised producer organisations and associations of producer organisations which store fishery or aquaculture products; and financial compensation for operators in the fisheries and aquaculture sector (including the processing sector) for their loss of income and additional costs incurred as a result of market disruption.
The proposal was presented on 13 April (see EUROPE 12932/8). The plenary vote will take place in June or July.
