20/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 June, the European Commission approved the protection at Community level of the Portuguese Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) ‘Maranho da Sertã’ and the Portuguese Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) ‘Sopa da Pedra de Almeirim’. The European Commission also approved the addition of ‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ from Turkey to the register of protected designations of origin (PDO). ‘Maranho da Sertã’ is a sausage produced exclusively in the municipality of Sertã, in central Portugal. ‘Sopa da Pedra de Almeirim’ is a thick soup, the consistency of which is due to the presence of ingredients such as beans, potatoes and sausages. ‘Giresun Tombul Fındığı’ is a type of premium hazelnut grown in various municipalities in the provinces of Giresun and Trabzon, close to the Black Sea.
