23/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Banking Authority (EBA) has made more than 200 proposals that would contribute to the development of the single market for retail payments in the European Union, in its opinion and report published on Thursday 23 June. It is responding to the European Commission’s call for advice on the review of the PSD 2 directive (2015/2366) governing payment services (see EUROPE 11406/10). Its proposals aim to ensure a harmonised and consistent application of legal requirements across the EU. The EBA hopes to enhance competition, facilitate innovation and protect consumers’ funds and data. It also wants to promote the development of user-friendly services and prevent exclusion from access to payment services. The European Commission launched a consultation on the revision of the directive in May (see EUROPE 12949/32). (AD)
