10/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 May, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the revision of the Payment Services Directive (Directive 2015/2366/EC or ‘PSD2’), which forms the basis for payment rules in the EU. The Commission will report this year on the application and impact of PSD2, as announced in the retail payments strategy of September 2020. The consultation aims to determine whether the Directive has achieved its objectives and whether changes are needed to ensure that its rules remain relevant. The Commission is also seeking views on the broader concept of ‘open finance’, which could cover a range of financial services such as investment in securities, pensions and insurance.
