On Tuesday, 10 May, the European Commission approved a €400 million French aid scheme aiming to support agriculture and fisheries in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The aid was approved under the State Aid Temporary Crisis Framework, adopted by the European Commission on 23 March 2022.
The support in question will take the form of direct grants to cover part of the rise in feed costs incurred by farms and fish farming businesses in France.
The European Commission found that the French scheme complied with the conditions set out in the Temporary Crisis Framework. In particular, the aid will not exceed €35,000 per beneficiary, and it will be granted by 31 December 2022 at the latest.
The European Commission concluded that the support scheme was necessary, appropriate, and proportionate to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a Member State in accordance with Article 107(3)(b) of the Treaty and the conditions set out in the State Aid Temporary Crisis Framework.
