Brussels, 23/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced, on Thursday 23 June, that it had accepted the application to register ‘Cidre du Perche/Perche’ from France in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO). This drink is an effervescent semi-dry or brut cider, obtained by taking foam in the bottle, not pasteurised and not carbonated. It is made from pure cider apple juice of specific varieties. The cultivation of apple trees is very old in Normandy and the cider producers of the Perche region use traditional know-how such as the use of late varieties, the harvesting of the fruit at maturity, spontaneous and slow fermentation and the natural formation of foam. This new designation is added to the list of 1,626 wine products already protected, the list of which is available in the eAmbrosia database. (LC)
