07/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – Responding to a written question by two Portuguese MEPs from The Left, the European Commission provided assurances, in a written answer dated 30 March, that “the distributional aspect of the Social Climate Fund was very carefully calibrated”. The distribution key takes into account household emissions, adjusted for energy bill arrears, the EU institution explains. For example, it is planned that the allocated share of the Fund be adjusted to the relative prosperity of each Member State on the basis of gross national income (GNI) per capita. For Member States whose GNI is less than 90% of the EU average, the Social Climate Fund allocation may not be less than their average share of emissions in the building and road transport sectors in the period 2016-2018.
