EU standardisation strategy worries industry

07/04/2022 (Agence Europe)Seventeen European associations representing various industrial sectors, including BusinessEurope, express their concerns and recommendations regarding the European standardisation strategy presented at the beginning of February (see EUROPE 12882/3), in a joint position paper published on Wednesday 6 April. Indeed, in the face of the European Commission’s desire to “take back control” of the standardisation process, these organisations insist on the need to keep industry “in the driving seat” of technical standards development. European action needs to be clarified, particularly with regard to the common specifications desired by the Commission, they say. Above all, the industry rejects any form of protectionism, or even isolationism, that would result from the current reform. On the contrary, it believes that the EU should strengthen its international cooperation in the field of standardisation. See the joint document: https://aeur.eu/f/15s (PH)
