01/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Commissioner for Neighbourhood, Olivér Várhelyi, said on Tuesday 30 November that the “key point” concerning the region and relations with Jordan was “resilience, stability, security and prosperity”. At a press briefing in Amman, he explained that the EU was paying the greatest attention to increasing the level of its engagement with Amman and to seeking new areas of cooperation in order to deepen this engagement. The Commissioner recalled that the EU had proposed an economic and investment plan for the Mediterranean region (see EUROPE 12654/8). According to Mr Várhelyi, the EU plans to mobilise at least €2.5 billion of investment in Jordan over the next seven years, which represents 7-8% of the country’s GDP. He added that in 2021, the EU paid €164 million in grants to the country. (CG)
