The 11th round of negotiations between the EU and Australia, which took place from 1 to 11 June, achieved progress in almost all areas, according to the European Commission.
In the category ‘services and investments’, the chapter on professional services and mutual recognition was able to be provisionally closed. Those on telecommunications, domestic regulation, maritime transport and movement of persons are close to conclusion.
The chapter on competition, subsidies and State-owned enterprises is amongst those still needing work. The EU and Australia have yet to agree on the issue of anticompetitive conduct and merger controls. The scope of this chapter also remains to be defined more concretely.
The next negotiations are to take place in autumn 2021.
