21/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 21 June, the Council of the EU appointed three new EU Special Representatives (EUSRs), three women who will take up their duties on 1 July. Emanuela Claudia Del Re, an Italian parliamentarian and former Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will be the new EUSR for the Sahel from 1 July 2021 to 30 August 2022. Terhi Hakala, a Finnish career diplomat with extensive experience in the EU’s Eastern neighbourhood and Central Asia, has been appointed EUSR for Central Asia from 1 July 2021 to 28 February 2023. Annette Weber has been appointed EUSR for the Horn of Africa from 1 July 2021 to 30 August 2022. The German has over 25 years of experience in the region, where she has facilitated peace talks at the highest political levels. (AN)
