21/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On 18 June, the European Association for Energy Storage (EASE) and 12 national energy storage associations sent an open letter to the European Commission, highlighting the lack of attention and funding for energy storage in most EU Member States’ National Recovery and Resilience Plans (RRPs). However, the associations stress that energy storage is a “key enabler” of the energy transition, because it alleviates the problem of intermittency of renewable energies and contributes to the integration of the energy sector. Believing that many RRPs “do not comply with the climate target of 37% of each Member States’ RRF (Recovery and Resilience Facility) spending”, the 13 organisations fear that the plans “do not live up (...) in terms of supporting the clean energy transition”.
