14/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – “Deeply concerned” about the conflict in Tigray, a region of Ethiopia threatened by famine, the leaders of the G7 meeting in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, under the British presidency, on Sunday 13 June condemned “the ongoing atrocities, including widespread sexual violence”. The G7 also expressed support for ongoing international investigations to bring perpetrators of human rights violations to justice. Fearing the possibility of “a major humanitarian tragedy, which could affect hundreds of thousands of people facing starvation”, the G7 leaders call in their final communiqué for an immediate cessation of hostilities, unimpeded humanitarian access to all areas of Tigray, and the immediate withdrawal of Eritrean forces. They urge all parties to pursue a credible political process, “which is the only solution to the crisis”. See the final communiqué of the G7 summit: https://bit.ly/3q2G6pX (AN)
