16/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 15 April, the European Commission published its roadmap for the presentation of a proposal for a ‘Pact for Research and Innovation’ by the end of the third quarter. The initiative was first mentioned in the Commission’s Communication on the new European Research Area (ERA–see EUROPE 12571/9). Indeed, this Pact—which will take the form of EU Council recommendations and will therefore have to be supported by the Member States—will detail new priority areas for action in R&I. It will update the political guidelines of the EU27 and will bring together in a single document “the most relevant principles for the ERA”, which are currently scattered across a multitude of other texts, the Commission explains.
