10/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – During the evening of Wednesday 9 December, and following an initial failed attempt last week (see EUROPE 12616/13), the Ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) finally approved the German Presidency of the Council of the EU’s draft conclusions on establishing a European hydrogen market (see EUROPE 12619/19). The approved text stresses in particular that there are “different safe and sustainable low-carbon technologies for the production of hydrogen that contribute to the rapid decarbonisation”. It adds, however, that “emphasis should be given to hydrogen from renewable sources in view of its key role for the achievement of the decarbonisation objective”. This stage paves the way for final adoption of the text by written procedure. The procedure is expected to be completed on Friday 11 December, along with adoption of conclusions on offshore and other renewable energies (https://bit.ly/36Z9iWD ).
