10/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – Taking over the positions of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Eurogroup (see EUROPE 12574/5), the European Council appointed, on Thursday 10 December, the Dutchman Frank Elderson as a member of the ECB’s Executive Board to replace Yves Mersch from Luxembourg. Currently a member of the Executive Board of the Dutch Central Bank, Mr Elderson will take up his duties on 15 December 2020 for a non-renewable mandate of 8 years. The European Parliament, which was only consulted, approved this appointment, but it regularly criticises these appointment procedures in the financial sector which do not promote gender equality.
