12/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs from the European Parliament’s Committees on Foreign Affairs and Development selected the three finalists for the 2020 Sakharov Prize on Monday 12 October. These are the democratic opposition in Belarus, represented by the Coordinating Council, and political and civil society figures, environmental activists from Guapinol and Berta Cáceres in Honduras, and Monseigneur Najib Mikhael Moussa, Archbishop of Mosul, in Iraq (see EUROPE 12562/36). The other candidates were four LGBTI rights activists in Poland. The winner will be chosen by the Conference of Presidents on 22 October and the prize awarded on 16 December at a solemn ceremony. (CG)
