LGBTI Intergroup in European Parliament calls on European Commission to act against “conversion therapies

12/10/2020 (Agence Europe)The LGBTI Intergroup in the European Parliament has urged the EU to take action against “conversion therapies” practised in many European states with the intention of “converting” homosexual people to heterosexuality. In a letter sent on Friday 9 October to the Vice-President of the Commission for Values and Transparency, Vera Jourova, and to the Commissioners for Equality and Health, MEPs denounced a violation of human rights and emphasised that this treatment resulted in serious physical and psychological suffering. “This call is all the more pressing when, as recognised in the recent European Parliament resolution on Article 7 concerning Poland (see EUROPE 12562/21), the Polish episcopate recently endorsed the idea of ‘conversion camps’ in Poland for LGBT people”, they noted. At present, only Germany, Malta and some regions of Spain have banned these practices. Consult the letter: https://bit.ly/34JCSNG (AC)
