12/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU welcomes China's announcement, on 9 October, that it is finally participating in the COVAX Facility, an initiative of GAVI (the Vaccine Alliance), CEPI and the WHO to ensure equal access to affordable vaccines against Covid-19 worldwide. “I welcome China's announcement to join #COVAX, the @WHO-backed initiative. Only a truly global effort and commitment can win the fight against the pandemic. Now it is about action and delivery”, said the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, on Twitter, on Sunday 11 October. China has signed a contract with GAVI. The EU, the EU27 and the EIB are participating in COVAX with a €400 million guarantee from the EU budget and an EIB loan (see EUROPE 125673/10). (AN)
