12/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Foreign Ministers of the EU27, meeting in the EU Council, expressed their concern on Monday 12 October at the increasing number of attacks by jihadist rebels suspected of being affiliated to the Islamic state in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado and stand ready to support the Mozambican government. The issue has been raised by the EU Council in the context of topical issues in an attempt to identify the type of support that the EU could provide in response to the request for assistance made by the Mozambican government. The terms and conditions of support will be determined at a later date. “We are ready to support the Government of Mozambique and will discuss concrete options in the upcoming political and policy dialogues”, a diplomatic source told EUROPE.
