14/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament and the EU Council met for the first time on Tuesday 14 July to discuss the proposal to extend the European network for cooperation between public employment services until the end of 2027 (see EUROPE 12513/26). It was a “cordial” warm-up round, we are told, during which the positions of the EU Council and Parliament, which differed very little from each other, were presented. Negotiations will resume on 29 September and may not require a third meeting. On the basis of a positive evaluation (see EUROPE 11803/13), the European Commission had proposed amending the Decision (573/2014) on the improvement of cooperation between PES in order to extend this cooperation for 7 years after 2020 (see EUROPE 12327/18).
