London publishes its plan for UK-EU border controls

14/07/2020 (Agence Europe)On 13 July, the British Government published its model of governance for British borders after 1 January 2021. London had announced on 12 July a £705 million investment for this purpose in order to build new infrastructure (border control posts) and recruit additional personnel at the UK-EU borders. This ‘Border Operating Model’ is primarily intended to help industry, traders, and sectors that deal with Europeans. As provided for in the Withdrawal Agreement, border controls for goods and merchandise destined for Northern Ireland will be carried out in England—before arriving in Northern Ireland in any case. London and Brussels continue to informally discuss the future relationship this week before a more traditional round of discussions next week. Link to the British plan: https://bit.ly/2WgJqjx (SP)
