14/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU will provide €24 million in humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable populations in Uganda, including refugees and their host communities in the country, the European Commission announced on Tuesday 14 July. This envelope will fund food and health aid, access to water and sanitation facilities and education programmes until the end of the year, says Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič in a statement. In addition, €1 million has been mobilised to support coronavirus preparedness and control measures as part of the national pandemic response action plan. Uganda hosts 1.4 million refugees, particularly from southern Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is one of the largest numbers of refugees in Africa. (AN)
